The following is where to unlock the main items for 5.4:

Now for MSQ- you will have to have completed the prior patch story and final quest in patch 5.3 Reflection in Crystal.
For Eden- you will have to have completed the quest Reflection in Crystal and the prior Eden quest Worlds Apart. Please note that you have to fully complete the Eden Promise story before being able to unlock the savage mode.
For The Sorrow of Werlyt- you will have to complete the quest- Sleep now in Sapphire. This series will unlock Castrum Marinum- aka Emerald Weapon and you must complete the story mode to be able to unlock the extreme mode.
For the next YoRHa quest- you will need to complete Crime and Punishment. This is not the next raid BUT I would complete this quest sometime prior to patch 5.5- as you will need to complete it to do the next raid in patch 5.5.

The next Role quest- you will have to complete the MSQ quest Reflection in Crystal and the prior role quest Shadow Walk with Me. Now Shadow Walk with Me only opens when you complete all the prior role quest- the Healer, Physical DPS, Magical DPS, and Tank. If you have not completed these- you will not be able to do this quest.
The Void questline that is being added for this patch- you will need to complete the Role quest above all well all the follow quest: Thok Around the Clock, The Diabolical Bismarck, A Fiendish Likeness, A Deific Simulacrum, A Demoic Duplicate. These quest are from The Warring Triad Questline- these include the hard modes and extremes of the Heavenward primals.

Faux Hollows
If you already have unlocked Faux Hollows in patch 5.3, you don't have do anything. FYI- Shiva Unreal will no longer be available in patch 5.4 and will be replaced with Titan Unreal. If you haven't unlocked the Faux Hollows- below is the information you need:
